Ireland has four teams in the United Rugby Championship: Leinster, Munster, Ulster and Connacht.

Leinster
Leinster are the most successful Irish province of the modern era and one of the strongest club sides in Europe.
Based in Dublin, they are known for elite academy production, high standards, deep squads and a style of rugby built around accuracy, speed and pressure. For many neutral fans, Leinster are the benchmark. For rival fans, they are the team everyone wants to knock down.
Munster
Munster are one of rugby’s great emotional brands.
Based around Limerick and Cork, they are associated with European nights, fierce support, forward power and a deep sense of identity. Munster’s best teams have always carried a sense of defiance, and their rivalry with Leinster remains one of the URC’s biggest fixtures.
Ulster
Ulster are based in Belfast and play at Ravenhill, now known as Kingspan Stadium.
They have a strong rugby tradition, passionate support and a history of producing serious Irish talent. Ulster can be one of the most dangerous teams in the league when their set-piece, physicality and backline threat come together.
Connacht
Connacht are based in Galway and have long carried the energy of the outsider.
They have fewer resources than the bigger provinces, but that has become part of their identity. Connacht’s 2016 league title remains one of the great modern Irish rugby stories: bold, unexpected and hugely popular beyond Galway.
The rivalries
The interprovincial matches are some of the most important games in the URC calendar.
Leinster v Munster is the headline rivalry, but all Irish derbies carry edge. Ulster and Connacht both love spoiling bigger narratives, while Leinster often carry the pressure of being expected to win.
